Light + Air Door = Luna

When I saw this door design, I wanted to buy a home just to install it! I love the simplicity of the design, which combines both functional aspects and clean aesthetics. It really reminds me of the simple design solutions one can often find in modern Japanese interiors.

The perforations echo the design language of Jean Prouve's amazing Tropical house from 1946. The "luna: light + air door" was designed by Seven O2 and Yanko Design.

Luna is a simple and understated door with a mysterious character that provides a surprisingly functional feature. The series of holes in the door can be opened and closed by sliding the knob; which adjusts the amount of light, air and noise between two rooms.

An open door invites people to move between spaces. A closed door says privacy. Luna offers a state of being between open and closed. Reminiscent of architectural light screens and gangster era speakeasy doors, Luna expands the space between rooms.

Nikko Japan fall 2005

Testing..testing...1...2...3...

This is my first post to the eshibui blog hosted on Blogger. I've been posting to my old blog over at Typepad for a few years, but I'm not sure it's worth the monthly expense anymore. I'll see how this compares before I consider switching to this service.
